Children of Hope Haiti's Background
Children of Hope Haiti (COHH) is a non-profit organization working with impoverished children in Haiti. COHH was founded in 2002 by Karen Goodyear (Executive Director). Karen first traveled to Haiti, in 1998, to assist in medical clinics and work in an orphanage. While there she saw the great need of so many children living in urban and rural Haiti. Karen was compelled to start an organization that would provide children, through sponsorship and donations, the opportunity to attend school.
Since that time, COHH has continued to develop, grow and expand. COHH is involved in sponsoring dozens of children in both elementary and high school and has set up a scholarship fund for post secondary education. COHH is involved in numerous projects which include: providing laptops and computer training, working with sponsored schools, helping an orphanage, providing goats for rural families, distributing rice/beans, and family medical packs throughout various communities. In the past, COHH was instrumental in preparing land and assembling of 2 soccer fields and a playground in a former tent city (now known as Leveque).
Karen's dedication and determination to provide children in Haiti with the opportunity to attend school is highly admirable. Karen is the driving force behind the organization and why it has been so successful in aiding children in need in Haiti.
